and away we go

I was nine when I first saw Petra.  Or, at least, a photograph of Petra.

I had been reading another article in the People and Places series in our library at home, and the book fell open to the photograph of a building carved out of living rock.  I was fascinated that a city existed where the buildings were built right into cliffs.  It was Petra.

My imagination was fired. And no nine-year old boy can be denied when the adventure furnace is ablaze.

It took me over five decades to do it, but I am on my way to Petra.  And a lot of other places.

When I returned from China, an email was in my inbox advertising a cruise from Barcelona to Dubai with stops in Egypt and Jordan.  I immediately booked it.

But I also quickly discovered that airfare to Barcelona would be more than booking on the same ship as it crosses the Atlantic.  So, I am now heading off on a 31-day cruise from New Orleans to Dubai.  With stops in The Bahamas, The Azores, and Spain (plus Egypt and Jordan).

In fact, I will be headed to the airport in less than two hours.  In my usual style, I have left the major part of my packing for this morning.  I had best get to it.

If all goes well, I will keep you posted on the crossing.

If I could think of one, I would add an Indiana Jones joke right here.  Have a great time!

Right now I am watching the world pass by the Delta Sky Club in Los Angeles.  Next stop -- Atlanta.

And here I did my best to avoid making any Spielberg references.

I know how much they charge.  A LOT.  But I have spent the money to use it on my 20-some cruises.  I will just need to be concise.  And that plan died in its typing.
