Every time I think that my next stage of adventure may be elsewhere, something like this happens.
There is a sunset every night. But I have not managed to walk the four blocks to the beach to see one since I returned from the highlands. There is no good reason. I just didn’t do it.
Last night that changed. Just as I had no good reason to go before that night, I had no good reason that night, either. Well, other than the outcome.
I think the old girl still has a lot of sex appeal in her.
The heavens declare the glory of God,
the dome of the sky speaks the work of his hands.
Every day it utters speech,
every night it reveals knowledge.
Psalm 19
What a beautiful picture and what a beautiful Psalm to go with it. How could anyone doubt His handiwork.
ReplyDeleteNot a high humidity/heat person myself, I know I could more easily tolerate both if at the end of the day provided with opportunities to see as you did above. It has me sighing.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a better-than-average sunset.
ReplyDeleteamazing picture steve! not sure i've ever seeen quite a beautiful sunset, close but no cigars ;-)
ReplyDeletejust got home from a soccer game-our team won again.
It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other.
ReplyDeleteI am just glad to be here to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteAnd our nights are now cooler. 68 degrees two nights ago. It felt delightful.
ReplyDeleteAnd that may be the trick. Sampling increases appreciation.
ReplyDeleteThe yellows in our sunsets here are amazing.
ReplyDeleteChoosing verses was difficult. But isn't that always the case?
ReplyDeleteYou, Sir, having retired, are now well on the way in your Pilgrim's Journey. The metaphysical battle of being begins each morning as you rise, and each evening as you turn to sleep. The presentation of self in everyday matters is no longer dictated second-nature by your social position. As I type, you are falling through social space and time.
ReplyDeleteAs was so popular to say 20 years ago: Just what precisely is the color of your parachute? Or have you learned to fly in a way that birds would not understand?

How about the same sunset - just farther up the road? Had lunch yesterday with a woman who has a house for sale in La Manzanilla at an incredibly reasonable price. If you're interested in hearing about it, email me. She is talking to me about "managing" it and staying in it til it sells! I had just said earlier in the day yesterday, "They will be done" and now this..........wow.
ReplyDeleteI have a La Manzanilla beach view house in my sights for an incredibly low price. I will email you.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the metaphysical nail on the head with the imagery of a hammer.
ReplyDeleteI spent 61 years developing the Steve Cotton that eventually prowled the halls of our former employer. Now, I am inventing not only a new character, but an entirely different play. B.F. Skinner was full of beans. We are not conditioned automatons. We are all playwrights now. And a lot of us just need a good editor.
"Sunset is an angel weeping, holding out a bloody sword,
ReplyDeleteNo matter how I squint I cannot make out what it's pointing toward"
Bruce Cockburn ("Pacing the Cage")
Well, that is an image that probably will not send me running to tonight's sunset.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset. Hopefully you aren't enjoying it with your crocodile friend.
ReplyDeleteSaludos,

Where we're kind of drawing a blank on what to put down here.
This is one delight I can enjoy on my own.
