cut scenes

I love movies.

But you know that already from my posts about Netflix in Mexico.

I reopened my Netflix account in the hope that I could find new and classic films to watch at home.  But Latin America Netflix was a bust.  A limited inventory with quirky offerings.

So limited, I almost cancelled my subscription.  Instead, I fooled the internet system into believing I was somewhere in The States.

Otherwise, I was left to the offerings that show up at the Manzanillo multi-screen theater with its modern stadium seating and rather primitive sound system -- showing primarily American blockbusters.

My visit to Oregon has reminded me how much I miss good films with high projection quality and outstanding speaker systems.

The monarch of cinemas, of course, are the IMAX theaters with their crystal clear pictures and pristine sound.  So far, we have been to two different IMAX theaters.  That is me, in the midst of the theater, watching the credits roll by.  I almost felt like an executive at an editing session.

I doubt I will ever get the same feeling in Manzanillo.

  1. very cool picture. with the light shining on your head it made me thik of, beam me up scotty.

steve and i have been very sick since we returned form our trip. finally went to the doctor today and only paid around $23.00 for the 2 of us. we both got iv's because we were dehydrated, and prescribed 9 different meds because of our many symptoms. all that for 1 low price.  i'm beginning to wonder if that was just a partial payment. i'll have to look at the receipt.

    have a great weekend!

  2. I had the same initial reaction to the photo as Teresa. I thought you were wearing some sort of high-tech input device for better appreciating the picture until I enlarged it and realized it was the light fixture.

I am not as big a film connoisseur as you, Steve, so I generally am satisfied with the theaters where I live. However, I've lived exclusively in Alaska and Mexico for so long...I've never been to an IMAX. I'll put it on my list for a future trip north.

  8. From your picture, Steve, I assumed your trip to Oregon was really out of this world.  But then I realized it was just Salem's way of welcoming back it's prodigal son.  I just can not figure out if it was the younger son in the parable or the elder son.  Then I remembered your age.  That sealed it for me.  Hope you have/had a great visit.

  11. I have to admit the photo cracked me up. I thought it looked like some sort of futuristic hat and it was only when I saw the second light, sans head beneath it, that I realized what it was. Señor B is the movie junkie here. I hardly ever watch TV or movies.

  12. Like most movies, the audience got up and left as the credits were rolling.  I always stick around for the music.
