sleepless in 3c

I brought it on myself.

You would think after all the airplane flights I have taken this year, I would want my flight to New Orleans to be as short as possible.

There were possibilities.  Continental flies to Houston from Manzanillo.  If I were so disposed, I could drive to New Orleans from there.

But not me.  Instead, I flew three hours from Manzanillo to Los Angeles.  Then I waited for five hours.  Flew three hours through the night to Atlanta.  Where I am now waiting for three hours.  And I will then be on a short flight to New Orleans.

The reasons for this odd trajectory (looking as if it was mapped out by a federal agency) were sound when I booked the flight.  But most of them escape me now.

So, here I sit at 6 in the morning in the Delta Sky Club staring out at the dark Atlanta tarmac.  I guess it could be worse.  I could be George Zimmerman's attorney.

Whether or not this was a good flight plan, I will be in the Big Easy, the Crescent City, the home of jazz in a couple of hours.  It turns out that Jazzfest is in full swing during my two day stay.  That just may make up for my otherwise questionable choices in travel plans.

  1. Reads as if you might be catching up on some sleep in N.O. rather than listening to jazz. You might be getting too old for these kinds of treks - dare I suggest it ;-)

  2. I use to do stuff like that for the Delta Miles....before I woke up and figured out that I would never be able to redeem that gazillion miles I had in my account because of them only assigning 3 seats on each flight.....
Last time flying was a sad event, simply because my memory of the glory days of air transportation were still etched in my mind.
Have a great trip, we will be waiting for our favorite scribe to report back to us....

  3. Yes, it sounded like a mileage run to me as well. And then I wondered why Steve would need more miles. I thought he would've wised up by now, but then I, too, once was a mileage whore.

  4.  I just got to the hotel.  I have showered and will take a half-hour nap.  And I am then off to enjoy what this city has to offer.

  5.  I have come to tolerate long distance flying.  And I had better get myself in the mood.  The return flight from Dubai to Los Angeles is in excess of 16 hours.

  6. Miles were a consideration, but I primarily wanted the flexibility of flying from Los Angeles to Oregon on that day if circumstances had required it.
